President Ronald W. Reagan is shown with his wife Nancy Reagan at his second oath of office ceremony on a bitter cold day in January 1985. Both Reagans had strong ties to Illinois. President Reagan was born Feb. 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois. He attended Dixon High School and graduated from Eureka College where he earned three letters in football and was captain of the swimming team. When he left Illinois in 1933, it was to announce Chicago Cubs games on WHO Radio in Des Moines, Iowa and then to cover the Cubs at their California spring training camp.
Mrs. Nancy Reagan met Ronald Reagan when both were actors. The former Nancy Davis was the adopted daughter of Chicago surgeon Dr. Loyal Davis.

Eugene H. Cernan is a native of Bellwood, Illinois who attended Proviso Township High School. He joined the NASA astronauts in the early 1960s and flew on one Gemini mission. In December 1972, he commanded Apollo 17. He was the last American to walk on moon.
